Fourth Thoughts

Here are a few thoughts for the Fourth of July holiday...

On watching some of the Fourth of July festivities on various TV channels, I am almost certain that anything labelled "family entertainment" will actually fail to entertain anyone in the family. Only girl-girl porno movies and heavy rock n' roll are genuinely entertaining, and because both are generally considered inappropriate for families, there can therefore be no such thing as "family entertainment."

On the new Superman movie...I haven't seen it, but I can give you some advice on it anyhow. If you have little tykes, don't take them to see this. Instead rent the DVD of the 1978 Superman with Christopher Reeve. In all the promotion for this new movie they show these action scenes and then the scene from the `78 version where Superman and Lois Lane fly over New York, and the special effects in the `78 version are ankles and feet above the `06 Superman . Contemporary directors overestimate the powers of CGI graphics. Spiderman was likewise sent south by Nintendo-like CGI effects. Bits and bytes aren't the answer to everything, as it turns out; not yet. Get out the blue screens, suspension harnesses and Claymation, fellas.

And those are my Fourth of July thoughts.

Art,

Thank you for your recent subscription to our club. The girl-on-girl porno flicks will arrive within 7-10 business days. Please let us know if we may help you with any of your future debauchery needs.

Yours,

Haven't seen the new superman yet. But I have seen a couple of interviews with the *star*. Ugghhh...I think your right...stick with Chris Reeves and the 1978 version. I will, however, disagree about the modern day spiderman. I've enjoyed those. And Toby McGuire makes a great Peter Parker/Spiderman.

You and I don't agree on much, Art, but girl-on-girl porno is something I hope everyone, regardless of political party, can see eye-to-eye on.

The new Superman. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll scream and that's just paying for tickets. I have to vote for Christopher Reeve too. He can't be replaced.

Definitely see The Devil Wears Prada, which is a bucketful of bitchy fun, feline ferociousness at its finest.

Gee, I feel like Dan Rather today! Good morning, friends. Courage.

Good Lord... did everyone catch this on All Access? I guess movie reviews and favorite CDs are really the best topics for blogs. It's tough to be creative these days.

Baron's WGST/Atlanta Fill-In Cancelled, 7/5:

JIMMY BARON didn't end up doing fill-in for KIM PETERSON on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WGST-A/ATLANTA after all. BARON, the former co-host at crosstown SUSQUEHANNA (now CUMULUS) Alternative WNNX (99X), was scheduled to fill in for the KIMMER JULY 3-7 but PD RANDALL BLOOMQUIST cancelled the engagement before it started after BARON made joking comments about PETERSON's listeners on his MYSPACE blog. BARON's blog now says that the remarks ran afoul of the WGST sales staff, prompting the cancellation. Reach JIMMY at jimmybaron@yahoo.com.

Meanwhile, veteran talker JON-DAVID WELLS is stepping in to fill in for the KIMMER MONDAY through THURSDAY and also filled in for DARRELL ANKARLO on CUMULUS Talk KLIF-A/DALLAS on MONDAY and TUESDAY. Reach J-D at jondavidvox@hotmail.com.

From what I've read Jimmy Barron has a talk show lined up in San Francisco already...doesn't he?

I don't get much time to catch up on the localized Entertainment Tonight fluffery. I was too busy living the scenario described in my new entry.

I'm over on the Wall Street Journal's law blog, where they're discussing MSNBC's blog and people are speculating that Ken Lay staged his own death! So I've had no time for this Georgia story except to punch up radio-info where it's been up since 6/30.

As far as SF, unless there's something in the Rodney Ho articles, Leslie Gold (the Radio Chick) is in place for middays. Darien is still taking care of her health with plans to return to radio.

And next up, your post.
