Can I Call `Em?

Barack ObamaCan I call `em or what? It was only Sunday that I predicted the catchphrase of the Barack Obama presidency would be, "You're only saying that because I'm black!"

Since Sunday not only has Barack claimed Bill Clinton was calling it a "fairy tale" that a black man could be president, he's also accused Hillary of marginalizing the influence of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the civil rights movement. To cap it all off, he's even said a fellow black man, Robert Johnson -- not the one of "Hellhound on My Trail" fame, the CEO of Black Entertainment Television -- was trying to dredge up his past cocaine use to South Carolina voters.

Of these, I'll give him the third one. Johnson was saying that the Clintons had fought for civil rights and, "I am frankly insulted that the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues since Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood –- and I won’t say what he was doing, but he said it in the book -– when they have been involved." Johnson denied it, but of course he was referring to the cocaine use Barack admitted to in his 1995 autobiography! And if he's admitted to it, why would he care if someone else brought it up?

Even before all of this flap, Hillary Clinton ditched one of her campaign workers because they had said that Barack's drug use would be made an issue by the Republicans if he became the candidate. Why fire a guy for stating the truth? The man made it public record himself!

It's kinda tainted the whole celebration, in a way. I've been waiting eight years to get the Bush nightmare out of the White House, and now as I take a look at my Democratic choices, well...I just have to remind myself that nobody's perfect.

Simon Cowell of American IdolAmerican Idol, Season Seven

For some people it's the Oscars, for others it's the Super Bowl. For me...it's American Idol. No, I'm not gay! But somehow this show has me, the most unlikely viewer, in it's grasp. As a lifelong fan and student of show business in all of its forms, I'm fascinated to see who comes through Simon, Paula and Randy's door, and who exits back out as fast as they entered.

Lately three previous Idol Top Two finishers have lost their record contracts: Taylor Hicks, Katherine McPhee and Reuben Studdard. American Idol teaches us the hard lesson that sometimes even if you're a winner you can still end up a loser.

It's a kick to see Taylor Hicks get fucked because he was so quick to disown the show that temporarily made him a household name. Nobody likes an ingrate. Katherine McPhee is gorgeous, but comes across a bit daffy and I don't think anyone was going to buy such a white Irish gal singing the Beyonce-style music they set her up with. She needs to stick to showing off her amazing rack. Rebuen Studdard had charisma as a contestant, but as a performer he just never seemed to turn pro.

I hope to see a Southeastern contestant win again, maybe somebody like Bo Bice, only without the shitter problems.
