George Will Agrees

I was trying to think what I could have done that would spark all this Internet ill will towards me. It seems like I just tee up a topic and then posters line up to insinuate that I'm a lazy slob who's content to sleep on the couch all day despite ample evidence otherwise. Then I realized this all stemmed from the fact I was one of the early ones to point out that George Bush, Jr. had little idea what he was doing, and was in fact ruining the nation. It was at this same time the Bush bandwagon-riding, Kool-Aid drinking throngs began hunting through the haystack for some needle to incriminate me with and reassure themselves their good and wise leader knew just what he was doing.

Only 28% of the nation rides that Bush bandwagon anymore (complete with a "Bush-Cheney `04" bumper sticker still affixed to the rear), yet for some reason that 28% thinks this site is the best place to hang out on the Internet. I would prefer to hear from someone like the recently-awakened George Will, though, who had this to say on This Week yestreday...

"Donald Rumsfeld said, 'You don't go to war with the army you want to have, you go to war with the army you have.' Well in a war of choice like this one you can go to war with the army you want to have, yet we were still unprepared!...Bush said, 'Surely you're not going to blame me for what happened on the night shift at Abu Gharib two weeks ago?' Well, yes, it is your responsibility because it's a systemic issue..."

You know what I think? I think George Will must just be a lazy liberal loser! I guess he just doesn't want to grab the brass ring. Here we are in a perfectly solid economy and winning this glorious war for the homeland, and he still has the all-fired temerity to criticize our wise and all-knowing leader! Perhaps he should get himself booked on the Mike Rose show so the audience can call in and take a lot of cheap shots at him, and continue following him around on the Internet doing the same thing for three or four years afterward.

Time has proven me right, Bush fans. Get over it.

"No I won't back down/won't get turned around/You can stand me up at the gates of Hell and I/won't back down."

Art, you wrote a few days ago that you are enjoying a perfectly solid economy: a comfortable savings account, no credit card debt and steady employment at a company that's not outsourcing your job. With good health coverage and a nice home that will be there for you long after you retire, life sounds okay. Maybe not perfect, but possibly okay.

And your evenings and weekends sound free to plan anything you want: Book a cruise. Take a trip to Europe. Get an online degree, or take up a new hobby.

I have a comfortable savings account and no credit card debt because of my not-the-norm living situation. If I was having to pay rent, utilities, etc., I'd probably barely have my head above water. I'd be buying Pringles to use the change for pizza like my co-worker. The stock market also crashed 500 points the other day which is another indicator things are rockier than the propaganda ministry would have us believe.

It's access to global goods and cheap labor (and places like Wal-Mart) that mess up our scales of earning and spending. If and when a Dem is in the Whitehouse, it won't change things. The canyon between wealth and mere subsistance has nothing to do with Bush. Except that he's pushing through illegals, which is a huge ongoing financial burden. And Democrats are doing the same... everyone wants the votes and labor.

Most people live like you do, with roommates or family. So that's not too unusal. Just enjoy what you have. It all balances out, life's inequities and blessings. We all get some of each. It can be trying, obviously.
