Shredder Guitar!

Ibanez EX-1500What was I saying about a fool and his money are soon parted?

Since getting back into Van Halen and `80's rock n' roll after a long stay in the shag carpet and lava lamp era (which I still populate, as well), I started thinking I needed a guitar with a vibrato bar. So on my weekly trip to Guitar Center last week I saw this thing hanging on the used rack. I picked it up and gave it some strums and really liked the feel of the neck. I also liked the look of the gold hardware against the Alpine White finish and pearloid pickguard. It kinda reminded me of Vito Bratta from White Lion's ESP guitars.

So I made a mid-week visit as well, and then Saturday a sales guy (who looked like a young Boomer) came over and said, "That's your third visit to that guitar. We're gonna have to start charging you rental fees." So I finally caved. It was tagged at $200 but I offered $160 for tax, tag and title, which he too easily agreed to.

Also the Ibanez EX-1500
It's going to need some Sperzel locking tuners to keep it in tune, but the quality of the wood and overall feel are far better than the current Ibanezes I've tried, and was definitely a few leagues above the Made in Mexico Fender Stratocasters. I also picked up a Steve Vai Jem 7 Anniversary model that's very similar that was tagged at $2,200 to A/B the sound, and there was no more than two millimeters of difference in the tone.

So...I parted with my money, but am I a fool for doing so? I vote "no."

I vote "no" too, if that's what you you wanted to buy.

Too many people hoard money. You can't take it with you!!

I vote "yes" it was a waste of money.
that money could have been saved and added to your "time-for-a-36-year-old-man-to-live-on-his-own-fund"

don't be that man who still lives at home at the age of 40.

you are not in danger of hoarding money, you are in danger of being a creepy middle aged man who has to call your parents from the bar if it's past 10pm.

Art if you like it than no it was not a waste of your money. If it is what you wanted than enjoy it and ignore the person who only comes on here to put you down.

you can call it put downs or you could call it being honest with Art.

I'd rather be honest with him, I support him when he needs it.

I think Art is perhaps hiding from life under the safety net of his parents. And in this bubble he can live like a child, having all his basic needs met by someone else. Not having a girlfriend, or a place to call his own, most men want these things.

but we all have different goals in life and sometimes circumstances are beyond our control.

It looks nice but it needs a backsplash. You know. An easy-to-clean surface. For those exciting moments on stage.
