Somebody Call the Police!

Sunday night millions of people across the United States joined me in living between 1986 and 1996 -- no, even earlier! 1985! -- when the Police reunited at the Grammy Awards. Millions more around the world joined me today in my time warp when they flew to You Tube looking for the clip.

Though I could have done without the slow take on the second verse (that might work well about halfway through a concert, but for an opener it slowed the momentum some) I thought this rendition of "Roxanne" went really well. I was surprised Sting sounded about as good as he ever did. On the clip of their Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction from three or four years ago Sting and Andy Summers both sounded rough, and I was sure Sting would have to talk his way through the songs, but when I A/B it with the original 1980 video he sound just as good!

The Police have really come back with style and may finally give us `80's kids some dignity. Now I'll go search out the Grateful Dead's new 1976 Cow Palace release so I can get with modern times.

I tuned to the Grammys just to see the Police and I thought they were really good as well. And it looks like the reunion is permanent, as they have now announced a tour.

I stayed with the Grammys until around 10:15 or so and saw Christina Aguilera, Gnarls Barkley, Beyonce (yum), the Dixie Chicks (they deserved those Grammys) and was really really happy for Mary J. Blige.
