Portrait by the Artist as a Young Man

Wednesday, December 3, 1986. That's the date on the back of this drawing I did. I thought this was such a clever idea I've kept this around all these years. I just ran it through my new scanner so you could enjoy it, too. Isn't that something?

That's really funny.

I used to be a cartoonist too, Art. As fate would have it, a series I drew about ten years ago featured Al Franken as the villain. I should dig that out of my archives.

Actually the Al Franken cartoon you need to check out is called "Supply Side Jesus." It was in his first book, and shows how the Bible might've gone if Jesus put Republican ideas into practice. "By washing my feet, she is reaching her TRUE POTENTIAL!" Great stuff.

I think I mostly liked how that cartoon looked. I did it with a india ink fountain pen, and that was probably the most control I ever had over one of those. The lettering is almost decent, too. Curious how all us radio-TV-music guys were cartoon nuts, too. I suppose everyone else idolized Charles Schulz, too?
