"Barack Obama is Going to Raise My Taxes!"

"He'll bankrupt us with all these free programs!"

"If you want high taxes, just vote for Obama!"

Again and again and again we hear that Barack Obama is going to raise taxes to a height the British monarchy would have found repulsive in 1772. Though it's hard to imagine we could do worse than the $9 trillion debt we're already in thanks to George Bush, Jr., Obama would like to see the deficit shoot higher! That maniac!

Fortunately Obama has made the naive, rookie blunder of exposing his dastardly plans in a 64-page booklet that's downloadable on his Web site. I decided to check out the destruction he plans to lay upon us so I could steel myself for the Communist state we are about to become.

But it was odd. Instead of promises of ridiculously higher taxes, I found 16 references to tax credits. This week we'll look at some of these credits and the section of society they would benefit.

Working families

Page 16: "Obama will create a new 'Making Work Pay' tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. The 'Making Work Pay' tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans." (Italics mine.)

Page 19: "Obama will reform the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit by making it refundable and allowing low income families to receive up to a 50 percent credit for their child care expenses."

Page 46: "Obama will increase the number of working parents eligible for EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) benefits, increase the benefits available to parents who support their children through child support payments, increase benefits for families with three or more children, and reduct the EITC marriage penalty, which hurts low-income families."

Page 15: "Obama will...provide low-income families with a refundable tax credit to help with their child-care expenses..."

Give working families $1,000 of their tax money back? A 50% credit for child care expenses? Why, that's outrageous! He may as well read to us from Das Kapital! What other outrageous ideas does he have for us? What will he do for college students, for instance?

College students

Page 20: "Obama will create a new American Opportunity Tax Credit that will make tuition at the nation's community colleges completely free and will cover up to two-thirds the cost of tuition at the nation's public colleges and universities. This $4,000 tax credit will be fully refundable and available at the time of enrollment in college -- when families need the money."

Page 27: "Obama will make college affordable for all Americans by creating a new American Opportunity Tax Credit. This universal and fully refundable credit will ensure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university and make community college tuition completely free for most students."

Page 46: "Obama will establish a new American Opportunity Tax Credit worth $4,000 a year in exchange for 100 hours of public service a year."

That son of a bitch! Encouraging higher education? These nutty ideas will never work! More of this lunacy later.

CORRECTION: In a previous post I said Guns n' Roses "November Rain" video was pretentious and silly. It was "Don't Cry" I was thinking of. I thought that scene of him in the psychiatrist's office with the shaky hands was ridiculous.
