Closet Full of Treasure

Have you ever been blown away by what you found in your own closet? I am happy to say I have. I was cleaning out my old closet at my parent's house and came across some rock n' roll posters I thought had been thrown out long ago, and found a few more I didn't even know I had! I've acquired some frames at Wal-Mart and have taken photos for your viewing pleasure.

First, here's my old U2 poster. The copyright date on this poster is 1983, which means its from many years before they started to suck (I got it in `86 or `87). Most of the barnyard idiots at my high school didn't even know who U2 was, so having this on my wall was a point of pride.

When I got this one I wasn't even a big AC/DC fan, but I loved the poster. Here in my later years I've discovered the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, so now I truly prize this poster! This is from when Blow Up Your Video came out. I got a extra-thick frame to showcase this one.

The first poster I ever bought: good ol' Edward Van Halen. Van Halen was the Beatles of my generation. Metal heads, jocks, prom queens and rednecks all liked Van Halen. This poster is pretty dogeared at the corners, but I feel like that gives it a patina and "vibe."

Eddie Van Halen

Guitar Center was giving out free Jimmy Page posters for some reason, so I grabbed two of these.

Here's one of the ones I didn't even know I had. It's promoting the SACD (Super Audio CD) release of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. There's another one for Robert Plant's Now and Zen album, but I can't find a 24"x24" frame for it.

My hair stood on end when I saw this one. This pic isn't my actual poster, but I have this, to my own astonishment. It's huge at 38"x23", so I haven't found a frame for it yet. It will be most deserving when I do find one. Again, I have no idea where this thing came from!

The Cult Sonic Temple

I went googly-eyed when I unfurled this old dusty thing, too. A poster for Metallica's ...And Justice for All tour and album! Where did this come from?! I did have a friend-of-a-friend who worked at the Camelot Music at the mall in the early `90's, so maybe he gave it to me, or maybe Jeff Dunham was handing these out at the Brandy House after cleaning out a closet at Z-93 back in the olden days? I dunno, but I'm thrilled as hell to have this! In small print it says Metallica is on "Elektra cassettes, compact discs and records"!

To round it out, I framed this thing up, a poster for my old band. Scott, our bass player, worked at Kinko's, and they had just gotten a copier that could make poster-sized prints, which was cutting-edge technology for 1992, so he made this poster. This once hung in a Sandy Springs record store where we sold two or three copies of our cassette.
