The First Time and Last Time I Saw Mastodon

I came across a video on YouTube from the first time I saw this band Mastodon I keep talking about. As I related in a previous post, I just stumbled upon their show at The EARL one night but found myself really enjoying it, although they weren't my usual cup of Diet Dr. Pepper. You can see me in the freeze frame of this video, and throughout it from :50 on in front of the rhythm guitarist. At the time I had just bought a black leather outback hat that I thought was really sporty.

Here's another one from the last time I saw them, on Saturday, May 15, 2009 at the Center Stage Theater here in Atlanta. This is a nice, trippy song from the new album called "The Czar."

The guy on YouTube who has both the EARL and the Star Bar shows I saw said he wouldn't trade me a copy of them. "Sorry, I don't make copies of shows," he writes. Which is obviously a lie, because I don't think I'm watching an original VHS tape on YouTube, am I? And Mastodon doesn't even mind tapers; there was a guy right out in the open with a 15' boom by the soundboard at the Center Stage show, and I just snagged his tape* of off of Dime a Dozen, so I don't know what this other guy is worried about. Oh, well. I ain't gonna beg.

* I have just been advised on the Mastodon board that the Dime a Dozen boot I got wasn't from the 15' boom guy, but another taper called The Governor. Hey, we're all about accuracy in reporting here at the Bar & Grill.
