Been to the CD Store

Okay, I've gotten some more CD's of late. Here's how they stack up:
  • Robert Plant, Shaken n' Stirred, Now and Zen, Manic Nirvana: I got these three mostly to be complete with his most commercially-successful solo years. So far I've only listened to the first three tracks of Shaken n' Stirred and wow -- PEE-YEW! This has to be one of the worst records I've ever put in my CD player, let along by a major act. Duran Duran doesn't sound nearly this dated. Even David Lee Roth's A Little Ain't Enough smokes this record, and that's saying something. Maybe it'll get better on a second listen.
  • Pink Floyd, Meddle -- Now this is more like it! It's no Animals, but at least a couple of the tracks are good. "One of These Days" leads it off, and it ends with the 23-minute "Echoes," which is what really makes Meddle worth owning. The live version of "Echoes" on the Live from Pompeii DVD trumps the one on this record, though.
  • The Georgia Satellites -- A friend of mine talked me into going to see these guys back in the mid-`80's. I expected to be thoroughly bored, but instead I would say it was one of the best concerts I ever saw. These guys just had a vibe with their audience that made you feel like you were in a big clubhouse. Saw them later without the singer, Dan Baird, and it wasn't nearly the same. Steve Marriott of Humble Pie fame was a fan of theirs in their club days when he was a Atlanta resident. I can't say this CD captures the energy of their live show, though. Sounds kinda flat.
  • Yes, The Yes Album -- This replaced Joy Division in the CD player. I already had the Rhino remaster of this with bonus tracks, but as a member of the Steve Hoffman Forum I have to buy original CD editions of records and then compare the original with the remaster. I haven't put them side-by-side yet, but wow, what a great record. This thing just keeps you involved and surprises you every time, even after you've heard these songs over and over. This really put a smile on my face in the ol' Corolla.
  • Cactus, Cactology -- Holy crap, there's a Cactus anthology at the used CD store! That means someone around here besides me knows who Cactus was! I need to meet this cool person! Cactus was one of the best hard rock/boogie blues bands of the `70's. Originally this band was supposed to feature Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart, but wound up instead with Ted Nugent's guitar hero, Jim McCarty, and Rusty Day, formerly of Nuge's Amboy Dukes. Great band and great record. Now if someone would just turn in the Cactus live double CD that sells for $120 on Amazon...
  • The Go-Go's, Beauty and the Beat and Vacation --"Art, you already told us you had bought these." Eh...I hadn't actually bought them when I last reviewed them, but Jane and Belinda can now hang up with their lawyers because I now own legitimate copies of these records. These sounded good here at the PC, I'll be curious to see how they fare behind the wheel of the Corolla.
And that's my latest CD acquisitions.

I've never heard "Shaken & Stirred" but I must say, most Plant stuff PRE-Now & Zen scares me. Now & Zen was a great album. Kinda kitschy but great. I think i'm the only one that likes "Dance On My Own".

The Go-Go's...Jane, the bassist. Sigh. I wish I could have been her roadie, I'd have lovingly licked the sweat and grime from her strings at the end of the performance.
