MySpace Finds
|
|
Though I still find it hard to get beyond the horrible lawn windmill aesthetics and the sissified "a place for friends" motto, I sure am finding myself surfing MySpace a lot. I search trying to find some band or singer to fit in with, and there's as many options around metro Atlanta as you could ever hope to have. Funny how for a city of just five million people, with no real entertainment industry, there's so many people turning out pro-grade recordings.
A few profiles jumped out at me as I was surfing, so I'll do these artistes the favor of increasing their profile views by one and linking them here.
Band/Artist: Good Friday Experiment Song: "Early Ideas..." Impressions: I think I was searching for Pink Floyd-oriented bands when I came across these guys. I don't know the complete title of this "Early Ideas" song since MySpace just shows dots after the first two words, but I would recommend they keep going in this direction (like I know anything). This is also the only band that wrote back to say "thanks" when I wrote to say they were good. They say they may have more shows coming up but the members are involved in other projects (lack of dedication, fellas! Get with it!).
Band/Artist: Cobweb Strange Song: "Currents of Night" Impressions: I smell some real Roger Waters enthusiasts here, and it smells good! I think this one came up on another "influenced by Pink Floyd" search. This particular tune would fit right in on Live from Pompeii. I don't see any mention of live shows, though, so I guess I won't get to hear how this stuff comes across in person anytime soon.
Band/Artist: The Music of Hatch Song: "Good Boy" Impressions: There was a goth alternative rock band that made a small splash in the `80's called Swans, or The Swans. They did a cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" that I really liked, and I played some of their other tunes on Southern Tech radio. So I looked up Swans-influenced people and this guy Jason Hatcher came up. I remembered seeing his old band Hex Error opening for Mastodon, but I like this acoustic stuff he's doing far better. The tune "Good Boy" in particular is really good, I think, and I can imagine "Black Limosine" (that's how he spells it) being built into something really epic with a full band. In his photo it looks like he's got a look that communicates something about his music, like he's studly, yet might take you to a shed and kill you, but would tell you an interesting story first. And this is a good thing. |
