They Thought They Had Me ( III )

Sure, these anecdotes seem piddly and small in hindsight. Who would even remember this stuff? But when you're hoping to start a career and impress people and make connections, it's really irritating when instead you find yourself having to prove you aren't a douchebag all the time. Plus, these experiences forged the template for conflicts to come.

As I was preparing for my morning shower I got a call from the video department at the hardware retailer. The evening before I had been making a dub for somebody and left it by some tape machines where they wanted it for a session the next day. The call was to say where's the tape? Uh...last I knew it was right there in plain sight by the machines! Wasn't it? No, they don't see it. Obviously I must not have done it! Or I did it and put it in the wrong place! How could I ever produce quaity videos about lumber stacking when I couldn't even get simple dubs done?

So I was wringing my hands wondering what could've happened. I got there. "Oh, we found it. Vanessa had it." Why the hell would she have been picking that up and wandering around with it?! Leave it alone!

But so again...they thought they had me!

----------------------------------------

The Had Me...Sort Of

One of the producers wanted me to dub a series of clips for them and gave me a list of the order she wanted them in. I was going to get to it when the current dub was done.

On my way back from the toilet the receptionist said, "Don't forget Karen's dubs!" and handed me a little reminder note with all the segments listed on it again. Okay. So I went downstairs with the receptionist's note and started dubbing.

A day or two later I hear this lady went to my supervisor and told him I had dubbed her stuff in the wrong order. Why? BECAUSE THE RECEPTIONIST HAD THEM IN THE WRONG ORDER ON THE LIST SHE GAVE ME! When I compared the two I saw it. But didn't she take this dictation straight from the producer? Sigh...so you can never C-Y-A enough.

Yeah...I guess it's kinda nutty I remember this stuff so well. On to Kinko's conflicts next.
