Changes ( II )

In Monday's post we met someone who's attitude towards the Democratic party changed in four years. Today we meet someone who changed their opinion of the party, more specifically Barack Obama, in just four days. Here's what a guy known as "Cat" on a discussion forum I inhabit had to say about Obama's presidential prospects a couple weeks ago:

YOU want to take a community organizer you know nothing about other than he's eloquent, smooth, and a Democrat, and place his ass in the White House. YOU think it's OK to just throw anyone in there that isn't Bush. YOU want to make a mistake that is every bit as bad as what the last eight years have been about. YOU, and others like YOU have no idea what he means for America, and when you find out it will be far too late to turn back. We can't have that without putting up a fight, and it's personal...

If you had any pride or patriotism in you, you would know better than to support Barack Obama for President...You ignorant fucking power-hungry Liberals are amazingly stupid and the depths of idiocy you will descend to is actually surprising to me, though I've no clue why...it isn't as if you have a record of anything but all things immoral being shoved down Americans' throats for years...

Go ahead, elect Obama, but when you figure out how fucking stupid you were for doing so I'll try to be there to knock your goddamned teeth down your throat. You think you're so damned smart when what you are is flat-out ignorant and careless with the most important job in this country.

As far as I knew this guy was mentally stable, with no criminal history. But what about the people who held these same feelings who had mental health issues and/or access to guns? It was scary to consider. I can only hope they would transform as Cat did after he saw Obama's Grant Park speech:

I did watch Obama's speech, and I have to say that it was probably the first time I actually listened to what he had to say. I was impressed, and though I didn't vote for him, I am optimistic about the kind of President he's going to be. I already feel that he is going to be hard to beat in 2012, so I'll bet he's going to be a two-term President...

Here's the rub, all that bitching and bashing didn't do a damn bit of good. It only showed the rest of the world that we were, indeed, divided. What you refer to as fantasy I think is something that is mandatory if we are to restore America's reputation around the globe. A reputation I might add that Bush destroyed with his cowboy mentality and unilateral attitude.

If people want to sit around for 4 years and be a sore loser that will only keep them from joining the rest of the country in moving forward. People need to get their pride in check and learn to accept that things don't always go their way.

I'll side with John Wayne on this one. I didn't vote for the man, but he is my President.

Am I justified in feeling totally confused when I can't get a steady read on the thoughts of those around me? Everything and everyone seems to be all topsy-turvy, I guess it's topsy-turvy for the better. I hope this is a "change we can believe in."
