Make My Christmas List

The Christmas I remember most fondly is the one when I got a Star Wars Millennium Falcon. I'm not sure if that was the same year I got a X-Wing Fighter, the Stormtrooper Tie Fighter, the Darth Vader Tie Fighter, the prisoner carrier and the Death Star or not, but I remember being particularly thrilled to see that Millennium Falcon. Forever since I've wanted to recreate that rush.

However, as a near-forty-year-old, about all I'm really dying to get this year is AC/DC's new three-DVD set, Plug Me In*. I've gone on a AC/DC discovery kick of late and was excited to hear of this new product. Recently I saw a preview on the big TV at Guitar Center and found myself joined by some other 40-types who still got a dazed and confused look in their eye when Angus Young came on the screen. It looks fantastic.

The new Led Zeppelin remasters of The Song Remains the Same (DVD and CD) I've decided to pass on. Led Heads everywhere are grousing about needless edits in the soundtrack CD, and I have a personal gripe that it's in one of those crappy cardboard "DigiPak" containers. The actual movie turns out to be the same movie I already have on DVD, except now the sound is edited to match the picture. The crappy edits in the original, where Jimmy Page was heard playing 16th notes at the 12 fret while his hand was pictured playing a chord at the third fret, were what gave it it's 1970's charm. Also, the added songs from the concert haven't been inserted into the set list where they belong, they're on a second disc, and most of them are already on the 2003 DVD. So sorry, Jimmy, but I'm afraid you might have your first-ever fumble on your hands. You're 63, so maybe we'll let it slide. Just don't screw up the Ahemet Ertegun tribute on December 10th.

SO...besides AC/DC's Plug Me In, what else should I have on my list? I've also thought about a Samsung 8 GB MP3 player. Yes, I protested MP3 players before, but when I'm mixing songs on the computer I have to check the mix on several different stereos, as they can all affect your mix differently, so it would be nice to not have to waste CDs re-burning over and over. Plus if my car is ever broken into, God forbid, I would rather replace the MP3 player than 40 of my treasured CDs.

But what else is out there to get? Ah, maybe a DVD of The Office? The U2 by U2 coffeetable book? Those are some other things I've eyed.

What are you asking Santa Claus for?

* Monday wasn't a total waste. My copy of For Those About to Rock came in. An `80's pressing in mint condition! Excellent!

This Christmas, my needs are simple:

Seinfeld season 9
a nice shirt or two

Do you still have that Millennuim Falcon? I had one that is long since gone and my son saw a picture of it. So I’m looking for one in good shape (not for Christmas, but just as a surprise).

I believe it's still downstairs. I'll hang onto it, though, for what I don't know.

For what indeed...why don't you do Brian a favor and give to him so he can give to his kid? It does nothing but collect dust in your basement.

Why not make a little kids world just a little bit better with something cool like the millennium falcon?

I completely understand Art wanting to keep it; it's a cool toy. Mine got cracked in transit and likely just from age. My old Death Star Space Station met with a similar fate.

I found a Millemmium Falcon brand-new in the box on eBay (it's the re-release from a few years back, and this one lights up)...So this may just go under the Christmas tree anyway.

Actually I'm not even sure if that's still down there, and the last I remember it had lost it's radar dish and the little door was held on with electrical tape.

Some of that stuff is missing; I don't recall if there was an overzealous spring cleaning or if a devious plumber might have taken something as a tip. I should go do inventory on that stuff.

It turns out the Millenium Falcon and a lot of the other Star Wars stuff left the building a few years ago. Apparently we gave it to my pal Darren's little brother Elliot. Jeremy promptly stole it and put in in a stash with the football helmet (inside joke).
