That's Not Bush's Fault: Election 2000

2.) Bush gets the U.S. Supreme Court involved in election 2000 and it is decided Bush won by a few "hanging chads" after the court stops recounts.

Republicans believe that states and localities should govern themselves, except when elections involving Bushes are concerned. Then it's important that Federal justices (appointed by Bush, Sr.) get involved and stop any recounts that diminish Jr.'s microscopic margin.

It's worth pointing out that George W.'s brother is governor of the state, and the co-chair of his Florida campaign, Katherine Harris, ran the election! Conflict of interest?

Also a number of voters likely to vote Democratic (black) were turned away at the polls due to a database error that showed them as convicts, with future-dated convictions (i.e. convicted in 2012, for example).

Many Republicans and pussified Democrats say we should put this behind us. I couldn't agree more. After all -- it wasn't Bush's fault! Things just happened to fall his way. A minimum of finagling by well-placed friends was needed. Get over it!

BONUS: Wikipedia link for anyone interested.

Oooh, a Wikipedia link? Then it HAS to be true.

Art, I would like to heartily encourage you and your fellow Democrats to continue wallowing in the 2000 and 2004 elections. That will allow the Republicans to focus on THE FUTURE.

You're damned right I intend to say with all my might: Let it go, for Christ's sake! My God, it's almost 2007 and you're using the term "hanging chad."

Go volunteer for the Dems, Art. Work at your local polling place. Encourage like-minded people to do the same. Make damned sure injustices like 2000 and 2004 never happen again.

Or, continue your "Not Bush's Fault" series until he's out of office. Then one day look back at your life and cry in despair when you realize how much time you spent looking backward!

You are an angry, miserable young man. I find it interesting how conservatives are supposed to be the ones with sticks up their asses...but it's always those on the left who rend their garments at the horror that characterizes mankind's existence.

"I can't enjoy myself! Others are in need!" "I earn a decent living, but others do not!" "I am free to sit at my computer every night and lambaste the leader of our nation. But my freedoms are being stolen from me!"

Meanwhile I'm having the time of my fucking life. Go figure.

Hey, why so cranky? I'm having the time of my life, too! Having the time of my life explaining why none of the major events of the past six years had anything to do with the country's Chief Executive Officer!

Actually the Wikipedia link just summarizes what happened in 2000; it's very non-partisan. Plus I had a hard time posting a World Book Encyclopedia.

Seems like I remember several news agencys conducted their own independent recount of the ballots months after the election and Dubya still had more votes. Of course, I'm sure those agency's are run by republicans. Damn conspiracys!

Gore may get another chance though. I've read rumblings of his wanting to run again. Maybe it'll be a three way race between Gore, Kerry, and lady Clinton. Wow. I guess the republicans win again.

If he was just going to win again, why not let the recounting continue? And if your party's philosophy is to get rid of Federal government interference with local matters, why have the U.S. Supreme Court rule against the constitution of Florida, which is what happened? Sounds like he's following that philosophy as it's convenient.

If it is indeed a three-way race between Gore, Kerry and lady Clinton, then the Republicans can board up the windows in their campaign offices immediately. We won't have to lift a finger to get 90% of the vote.

I love how Dems continue propping up losers. And dead people. If I see one more "What would Wellstone do?" bumper sticker, I'll scream.

Maybe the Dems should exhume Wellstone's corpse and run it for President. He'd at least exhibit more life than Kerry and Gore...and would be a damn sight less abrasive than Hillary.

I'm voting democrat in nearly all of the races here in Cobb County as a protest vote.

The Dems stole Illinois for Kennedy in 1960, Rutherford B. Hayes ended up president in a deal a lot sleazier than any we're talking about here. I don't hate Bush, just most of the people he's surrounded himself with.

Oh, and Al Gore is possibly the biggest phony in American life, and most people see him that way, even if they didn't in 2000.
