Prince is Out of Print

Prince, ControversyI never was a big Prince fan, but I did enjoy some of his songs at least a little bit. I liked seeing Appolonia's boobies in Purple Rain, as I've said before. Yeah, I'll buy at least one Prince CD someday.

Well...if Best Buy doesn't have Purple Rain when I go over there today, I guess that will be too bad. Prince is out of print!

Yep, I just read that today (Saturday as I type) on the Steve Hoffman forums. Warner Brothers is not pressing anymore Prince titles outside of greatest hits compilations. Prince has control of his catalogue now, yet it is doubted he would re-release those old albums on his own. He must have the Robert Plant mindset where he doesn't like to look back at his heyday, but prefers to think he's moving forward, even if it's into a future of decreased sales, according to his fans.

Awhile back I was collecting the peak years output of Motley Crue and Ratt and found that you're not gonna find those full albums at Circuit City anymore, either, except maybe Crue's Dr. Feelgood. Just greatest hits from Motley Crue, and Ratt appears on nothing but K-Tel type `80's compilations; time has shown the former multi-platinum MTV rodents to have the cultural impact of Brownsville Station. We old geezers and our nostalgia for our Reagan Youth aren't valuable enough to take up more shelf space than a single-disc best-of.

If there are no Prince CD's there, I guess I'll be left standing outside in the Purple Rain.

Update: Sure enough, no 1999 or Purple Rain at Best Buy, Target or Circuit City! I just snagged 1999 off of Amazon ($4.99 + $2.98 s/h used) and hope to win an auction on Purple Rain tonight on E-Bay, though.

Since Ratt went on tour with Poison their distribution seems to have picked up since I last looked. Out of the Cellar, Dancing Undercover and Reach for the Sky are all at Best Buy. I've already got the whole classic Ratt collection, though.

The "New & Used" section of Amazon and www.musicstack.com are two other excellent sources for hard to find CDs and vinyl.

Are you sure you've got the right name on Musictrack? That's taking me to a generic placeholder page, and Musictack takes me to a Register.com placeholder page.

I saw Ratt at this dive bar in Hawaii back in the late 90's...they filled the bar for all three nights they were there. They did much better than Warrant and Great White when they were there.

Oh. Whoops. I've had to be at work a couple of hours earlier than usual this week, and apparently I'm a bit groggy.

I'm not out of print, I'll be putting something in the local paper soon. One of my 750wd epistles on the miserable state of the economy, and BushCo is responsible. And oh yeah, music from the mid-80's is now out of print. And I can't find machines to play my old cassettes or even CD's (!) on. Go figure. And us geezers need specialty catalogs for Jazz/Classical/Old time Country/Blue Grass/Blues recordings. Where the hell have you been? Cheers & Good Luck, JP
